These waste containers (WC) will be primarily used the for long-term storage of solid Low-Level Waste (LLW) which are intended to be temporarily stored in CHILW (interim storage facility) and subsequently in a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF). Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete (SFRC) material is identified as a potential solution for a cost-effective waste container solution. Therefore, under the governance of the Manufactured Product Organisation (MPO), the Civil Structural & Architectural (CS&A) capability is carrying out a series of gated technical exercises to establish a calibrated material model which will enable the substantiation of the waste container’s performance requirements via digital simulation.
