Under the Health and Social Care Act 2012, local authorities are legally required to ensure that eligible residents (adults aged 40-74) have access to the NHS Health Check program. It is the statutory responsibility of local authority public health teams in England to provide NHS Health Checks. The NHS Health Check Programme promotes early identification and management of cardiovascular disease and associated conditions through assessment and increased awareness of behaviour and physiological risk factors. It supports individuals to manage and reduce behavioural risk through information and risk reduction interventions. The programme is designed to spot early signs of stroke, Type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and dementia.
