The network allows Network Rail to carry and transmit voice, data, signalling and radio services to the operational railway for the support of safe train movements. There are plans for a renewal and replacement of this network. However, this will take many years to complete. The SDH equipment is End of Life (EoL) / End of Support (EoS). As a result, standard Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) support and extended support is no longer available or has limited availability. Network Rail is seeking information from qualified suppliers who can provide a comprehensive long term support arrangement for the National SDH Network.
