The research will involve manufacturing defect detection, with non-contact scans for geometry profile, metallic burring, CFRP delamination and uncut fibres. Automated scanning, easy machine configuration changes (for example lens changes) and variable light setting will aid in rapid inspection for multiple non-connected regions per workpiece. The components/features of interest will range in geometries. Most inspection will be within a working area of 200 x 200 mm in x and y, however scans with working areas up to 300 x 300 mm would be desired. Cutting tool scanning is another research area of interest, using the equipment to be purchased to scan cutting edges for tool wear analysis, requiring the ability to grip and rotate cutting tools.
