The overall site area is approx. 7.8 acres and consists of a Multi-Storey Car Park, the Queensgate Market (Grade II listed), the Library and Art Gallery (Grade II listed) and the Piazza shopping centre. In addition to the buildings, there is an extensive network of tunnels servicing the Piazza shopping centre and Queensgate Market. The scope of the regeneration programme is to redevelop the area in its entirety to provide the following core facilities: Zone 2: - Food Hall - Museum - Gallery - New Library - Urban Park - Improved links to the University The above list will be a mix of new build construction and extensive refurbishment of existing buildings ### Objectives The Cultural Heart will act as a cultural hub for the town where families, visitors and residents can gather and enjoy leisure, arts and music, with activities spilling out into a high-quality public space. Crucially, this will bring new people into the town centre. ### Main Contractor Procurement To deliver this ambitious development Kirklees Council are looking to appoint up to two main contractors, one for Zone 1 (circa £65m construction cost) and one for Zone 2 (circa £100m construction cost).
