They provide independence, choice and control by enabling people to commission their own care and support in order to meet the outcomes agreed in their support plan. The guidance for the use of DP is set out within the Care Act 2014 and each local authority must ensure that people are given relevant and timely information about DP and are supported to use and manage the payment appropriately.
