# Unique identifier and share code

The unique identifier is your organisation's code on the Central Digital Platform; a share code lets a buyer see your registered supplier information.

Updated 14 Oct 2026

A unique identifier is the code that identifies your organisation on the [Central Digital Platform](/glossary/central-digital-platform). A share code is a code you generate on the platform and give to a buyer when you bid, so it can see the supplier information you have registered.

## What it means

[Regulation 8 of the Procurement Regulations 2024](https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2024/692/regulation/8/made) defines "unique identifier". For a supplier, it is the unique code submitted to and recognised by the platform or, if none is, the code the platform allocates when you register. Procurements, contracts and buyers have unique identifiers too, which is how notices about the same contract are linked together. Your supplier identifier appears in documents such as [assessment summaries](/glossary/assessment-summary), under regulation 31.

The share code is the practical part. The government's [Central Digital Platform factsheet](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/procurement-act-2023-short-guides/central-digital-platform-factsheet-html) explains that suppliers complete their information on [Find a Tender](/glossary/find-a-tender), declare it is correct and generate a share code, or download a file of their information. You then submit the share code or file in the way the buyer specifies, often by pasting the code into the buyer's e-tendering system. Under [regulation 6](https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2024/692/regulation/6/made), the buyer must confirm you have shared your core supplier information before the tendering period ends.

## Why it matters for SMEs

The share code replaces a lot of repetitive form-filling, which saves small bid teams real time. But it also means the information behind it is used in every bid. If your financial details, connected persons or exclusion declarations are out of date, every buyer you share with sees the same mistake. The factsheet is clear that accuracy is the supplier's responsibility.

## Practical tip

Review your supplier information on the platform before each bid and after any change, such as new directors, new accounts or a change of address, then declare it again and generate a new share code if needed. Keep a note of which share code went to which buyer. Our [Central Digital Platform checklist](/tools/central-digital-platform-checklist) lists what you need to register.
