# Contract details notice

A notice a buyer publishes after signing a public contract, confirming the supplier, value, dates and other key details.

Updated 14 Oct 2026

A contract details notice is the notice a buyer publishes after it has actually signed a public contract. Where the [contract award notice](/glossary/contract-award-notice) says "we intend to award", the contract details notice says "we have entered into this contract", with its key facts.

## What it means

Under [section 53(1) of the Procurement Act 2023](https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2023/54/section/53), the buyer must publish a contract details notice within 30 days of entering into the contract, or within 120 days for a [light touch contract](/glossary/light-touch-contract). The content is set by [regulations 32 to 36 of the Procurement Regulations 2024](https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2024/692/regulation/32/made), with different versions for competitive awards, frameworks, call-offs, direct awards and below-threshold contracts.

Section 53(3) adds a second duty: for contracts with an estimated value of more than £5 million, the buyer must also publish a copy of the contract itself, within 90 days (180 days for light touch contracts). Some information can be redacted.

For regulated below-threshold contracts, [section 87(3)](https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2023/54/section/87) requires a contract details notice "as soon as reasonably practicable" once the contract is signed, if the contract is notifiable.

## Why it matters for SMEs

Contract details notices are one of the best planning tools a small supplier has. They tell you who holds a contract, what it is worth and when it is due to end. That is the information you need to prepare for the [re-tender](/glossary/re-tender) a year or more in advance, rather than discovering it when the tender notice appears with a 25-day deadline.

## Practical tip

Search contract details notices for the services you provide and note every end date in the next two years. Then work backwards: when will the buyer start engaging the market? The [contract expiry finder](/tools/contract-expiry-finder) does this search for you across published notices.
