# AI bid writing software for UK public sector tenders

How TenderNation's AI bid writer drafts tender answers from the buyer's documents and your own evidence, what it won't do, and what each plan includes.

Updated 14 Oct 2026

TenderNation's AI bid writer drafts answers to public sector tender questions using the buyer's tender documents and your own bid library. It's built for UK small and mid-sized suppliers who bid for council, NHS and central government work without a full-time bid team, and for consultants who write bids for clients.

It only uses facts it can point to. When the evidence isn't there, it leaves a visible gap for you to fill rather than making something up.

## What it does, step by step

### 1. Save the tender and pull in the documents

Add a tender to your [bid pipeline](/features/bid-management) and open the bid workspace. Where the buyer publishes the documents openly, TenderNation fetches them from the notice for you. You can also upload them yourself, including documents you've downloaded from a buyer portal.

### 2. Get a requirements checklist from the tender pack

The AI reads the pack and builds a checklist: the quality questions, pass/fail requirements, deadlines and documents you need to supply. Each requirement records the document and page it came from. The eligibility check rates hard requirements such as turnover, insurance and accreditations red, amber or green against your profile, and cites each one to its page.

If the buyer gave you an Excel or Word questionnaire, upload it. TenderNation finds the questions (and any word limits and weightings it can read) and adds them to your checklist. When you're done, you download the same file with your answers written into the answer cells. The import and export use no AI, so they don't count against your daily limit.

### 3. Draft answers from your evidence

Pick a question and ask for a draft, or start a whole first draft that works through every unanswered quality question on the checklist, up to 30 at a time. Answers you've already drafted, edited or approved are never overwritten.

Each draft is built from:

- **Your bid library**: case studies, policies, team bios, boilerplate and past answers you've saved
- **Your company profile**: sectors, certifications, past performance and key people
- **The tender pack**: the specification and scoring guidance, so the answer uses the buyer's own terms
- **A buyer briefing from public records**: for example, whether a contract is changing hands, so the draft knows what to emphasise

Every sourced sentence carries a tag you can click to see where it came from: a library entry, a page of the tender pack, a buyer fact or your profile. The tags are stripped out when you export, so the buyer never sees them.

### 4. See what's missing

The drafting instructions forbid the model from inventing certifications, case studies, client names, contract values, staff numbers, percentages, dates or statistics. Where the answer needs proof you haven't given it, the draft contains a marked placeholder such as `[TODO: name a comparable contract with outcome and dates]`. Each draft also lists its gaps. If your bid library is empty, the draft tells you that nothing in it is backed by your own evidence yet.

### 5. Mark your answer before the buyer does

"Mark my answer" reviews a draft the way an evaluator would. It checks the word and page limits, whether you covered everything the question asks, generic phrasing, and figures it can't trace back to your evidence. It then predicts a score against the buyer's scoring method with ranked improvements. A whole-bid view shows which answers are costing you the most marks. An unchanged answer returns its stored review, so asking again costs nothing.

### 6. Ask the buyer, then export

From ambiguities in the pack (TUPE data, volumes, how answers are scored), the AI drafts clarification questions for the buyer. Each one quotes the passage it's about, and any quote it can't find in the documents is dropped. When the answers are ready, export them to Word with a compliance matrix: every requirement, where it was found, and how you measure up. The export also records where AI drafting was used, which helps if a buyer asks you to disclose AI use.

### 7. Learn from the result

When the buyer sends its [assessment summary](/glossary/assessment-summary), the AI debrief shows where you lost points against the winner. You can save the lessons to your bid library, and future drafts are told to avoid the weaknesses evaluators marked down. Lessons are treated as advice, never as evidence.

The same writing help is in the form fields across the app, so you get it when you write a bid library entry, a social value answer or a clarification question too.

## What it won't do

- **It can't invent your track record.** A draft is only as strong as your bid library and profile. With an empty library you'll get a well-structured answer full of `[TODO]` placeholders. That's deliberate. Buyers mark down claims they can't verify, and you are responsible for every claim you submit.
- **It doesn't replace your review.** Treat every draft as a first draft. Read it, fill the gaps, check the figures and make it sound like you.
- **It doesn't submit the bid.** You upload to the buyer's portal yourself. TenderNation lets you record when and where you submitted, with the portal reference and receipt.
- **It works within daily limits.** Answer drafts are capped per day by plan (see below). A whole first draft reserves one draft per question when it starts and gives back any it didn't use.
- **It needs the documents.** If the buyer keeps the pack behind a portal login, TenderNation can't fetch it for you. Upload it and the drafting works the same way.

## How it compares

Several tools now offer AI bid writing. The difference with TenderNation is where the drafts come from and who it's priced for. For a side-by-side with an enterprise tool, see [TenderNation vs AutogenAI](/compare/autogenai-alternative).

[AutogenAI](https://autogenai.com/uk/) markets itself to enterprise bid teams. Its UK homepage asks you to book a demo and shows no price list (as of October 2026). [Stotles Bid Studio](https://stotles.com/bid-studio) drafts from your past answers and tender documents, and is sold through demos. Stotles' [pricing page](https://www.stotles.com/pricing) lists Basic from £75 a month and Growth from £475 a month (as of October 2026). We compare tender tools in more detail on our [Stotles](/compare/stotles-alternative) and [BidScout](/compare/bidscout-alternative) pages.

TenderNation's AI drafting starts at £49 a month on Professional, with published prices and a 14-day trial instead of a demo call. The same product finds the tender, scores your fit and runs your [bid pipeline](/features/bid-management), so the drafts already know the tender, the buyer and your profile.

Drafting a single answer uses one answer draft and one AI action. A whole first draft uses one AI action for the run and one answer draft per question. On the Free plan you get the fit score, bid/no-bid call and notice-level eligibility check, but not answer drafting. Full details are on the [pricing page](/pricing).

## FAQ

### Will the AI make things up?

It is instructed not to, and the product is built to catch it when it does. Drafts may only use facts from your bid library, company profile, the commitments you type and the tender. Where evidence is missing you get a `[TODO]` placeholder and a list of gaps, not an invented case study. Every sourced sentence is tagged so you can check it, and "Mark my answer" flags figures it can't trace back to your evidence. You should still read every draft before you submit it.

### Can I use my old bids?

Yes. Save your best past answers, case studies, policies and team bios to the bid library, tagged by topic. The drafting picks the most relevant entries for each question by keywords and by meaning. The more good evidence you add, the fewer gaps your drafts will have.

### Do I have to tell the buyer I used AI?

Some central government buyers can ask under PPN 02/24. The Word export includes a factual record of where AI drafting was used on the bid, so you can answer accurately.

### What happens when I hit the daily limit?

Drafting pauses until the next day. You can still edit, review and export everything you've already drafted.
